Waikato district has a roading network of almost 2,426 kilometres, of which 627 km is unsealed. Through the council’s seal extension programme we usually seal approximately 6-8 km of loose metal roads each year.
When deciding which roads to seal, we considers the following criteria:
- Traffic volume
- Strategic importance
- Accident record
- Residential dust nuisance
- Land use dust nuisance
Each of these attributes is assigned a weighting intended to reflect the comparative importance of each attribute within the ranking process.
