Committees in the Waikato District Council are set up to deal with specialised local issues. Councillors are appointed to committees and make decisions regarding their areas.

Councillors are appointed to committees. They make decisions on district-wide issues and activities, and plan policy on delegated fields of activity. A field of activity is a specific activity or function, which the committee has responsibility for.
Committee membership consists of a:
- Chairperson
- Deputy Chairperson
- Appointed Councillors
A Council Group Manager is assigned to each committee to provide advice and information on legislative requirements, delegated powers, and Council policy.
The Secretariat assigns a Committee Secretary to each committee to provide administrative support.
