Council committees
Committees in the Waikato District Council are set up to deal with specialised local issues. The elected council delegates responsibility for some of its functions to standing committees.
Councillors are appointed to committees. They make decisions on district-wide issues and activities, and plan policy on delegated fields of activity. A field of activity is a specific activity or function, which the committee has responsibility for.
There are eight dedicated council committees:
Creative Communities New Zealand Committee
This committee meets to discuss allocating funds from the Creative Communities New Zealand Scheme into the district.

Policy Committee
The Policy Committee involves all members of the Council and meets to discuss and plan council policies for the future direction of the Waikato district for areas such as the environment, roading and transport.

Regulatory Committee
The Regulatory Committee of the Waikato District Council meets to discuss matters of a judicial nature and make decisions on statutory and regulatory matters regarding the Council’s strategies, plans, policies and legislations.

Roading & Transport
This Committee meets to discuss roading operations in the Waikato district and make recommendations for amendments to roading services and road safety for the district.

Rural Ward Discretionary Fund
The Rural Ward Discretionary Fund Committee of the Waikato District Council meets to discuss applications received for funding, funding criteria, and funds which have been allocated to areas of the district that are not covered by the Community Boards or committees.

On 2 November 2010 the Finance and Corporate Committee was renamed the Strategy & Finance Committee.
