About WDC

The Waikato District Council is an elected body responsible for managing resources and providing planning and new directions which will sustain and benefit the needs of the Waikato district in the present and future. The Council undertakes a broad list of activities to ensure the sustainability and safety of the district for its residents. 

Waikato District Council has three offices

  • A head office at Ngaruawahia
  • Area offices at Raglan and Huntly

There are around 155 full-time equivalent staff working for Council.  The Chief Executive, employed by the Mayor and Councillors, is part of a Executive Team of seven.

Areas of the Waikato District Council’s activities include: 

  • Maintenance and upgrades of the district’s roading network
  • Management of water, wastewater, storm water, and waste minimisation
  • Provision of reserves, recreation facilities, libraries, halls, and community centres
  • Building and resource consents
  • Noise and animal control
  • Inspection and licensing of premises
  • Civil defence
