Council strongly supports the installation of stock underpasses in order to address road safety and environmental issues in the district.
A subsidy of up to 25% of the total cost of installing the underpass will be made available to the owner. The amount payable is dependent on the average daily traffic (ADT) count on the road in which the underpass is constructed. An ADT of 500 or more is eligible for a 25% subsidy, while an ADT of 200 will receive a 10% subsidy.
The design and installation of an underpass is the responsibility of the property owner. Council can provide the property owner with names and contact details of suitable underpass contractors if required.
Once installed, the underpass remains the property of the land owner and remains in the road reserve at Council’s pleasure. A Memorandum of Encumbrance, recording the covenants the owner has entered into in Council’s favour, will need to be executed by the owner. The memorandum will need to be registered against the Certificate of Title of the land to be encumbered.
This and other conditions are described more fully in the Stock Underpass Brochure and the Stock Underpass Application Form.
