Preferred option for the Kopua Bridge is put forward

The preferred option for the replacement of the Kopua footbridge reflects the strong views of Raglan residents.

Waikato District Council Group Manager, Community Assets, Richard Bax said Council received a lot of valuable input from residents on the initial seven preliminary concepts for the bridge.

“There was an overwhelming response to having the replacement bridge remain in-keeping with Raglan’s natural landscape. We have listened to this request and the preferred option we have put forward is very similar in appearance, location and elevation to the current footbridge,” he said.

The preferred option is derived from Option 1 and 2 of the preliminary concepts and is expected to cost approximately $1.8 million to construct.

Residents will have the opportunity to discuss the preferred option at Council’s Open Day on Thursday 6 August 2009.

The Open Day will be held from 3pm to 8pm, in the Supper Room, Town Hall, Raglan.

“We really encourage the community to come and meet with the project team and Council, to discuss issues such as aesthetics, lighting, higher elevation, parking, etcetera” Mr Bax said.

Following the Open Day, the feedback will be collated and the preferred option recommended to Council for approval.

Council is aiming to begin the design phase for the new bridge in September 2009.
